Not long ago, we published a piece on where the Harry Potter universe stands today—full of success but growing controversy. We also wrote about the upcoming HBO series, which promises to adapt all seven books faithfully. While the cast of Hogwarts teachers had already been announced, the leading trio remained a mystery—until now.
Meet the new Harry, Hermione and Ron
HBO has just revealed that newcomer Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter. Arabella Stanton, who began acting on London’s West End stages, will portray Hermione Granger. Alastair Stout, a young actor just starting, will take on the role of Ron Weasley.
Choosing a cast of fresh faces echoes the approach taken in 2001 when the first film adaptation was released. The creators hope this strategy will help viewers embrace new interpretations of these iconic characters.
What’s next for the series?
The show will have seven seasons, each based on one book from the series. The premiere is scheduled for 2026, and J.K. Rowling will serve as executive producer.
- Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape,
- John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore,
- Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall,
- Nick Frost as Hagrid.
